as long as there is no monthly fee and as long as it is tasteful, I don't mind

I think that in-game ads (or even ads on the log-in screen) would be tacky and totally out of place.

I started watching "Predator III" on TV one night (bored, nothing else on, and hadn't seen it before), and the first thing you see in the movie is a space ship travelling through the void. It was plastered with Ads! I thought to myself "this is going to be worse than I thought it would be." And it was.

For me, in-game advertising=insta-not buy for any game, unless the game costs me nothing.

All you people that say you don't mind must be the same folks that are the reason I have to sit through eleven commercials before I watch a movie I paid ten bucks to see.

Just say NO to advertising in things you're PAYING for!

Yesterday I would've said this thread would never have anything to do with GW, but after the GW2 news bombshell, I'll believe anything is possible.

#1. Don't judge GW2 before you play it, numbers are deceiving

#2 I said as long as the Adverts don't slow me down I wouldn't mind them in the login screen

Wouldn't surprise me if they started selling gold themselves. Since they seem to enjoy following the rest of the crowd now.

The fact is I dont care about advertising as long as it drives down Guildwars Prices OR gets Anet more employees to get us more content as long as we can see a result of the advertising. And also I dont want it to be out of place... The ads better blend in with the game and not just popup in the middle of a run.

The online sphere of advertising is different from the other forms out there (print, TV, etc). Most online media buys for blue chip companies are about branding. The agencies that rep them tend to understand the business and would not make outrageous demands like the above (which was clearly tongue-in-cheek, I'm aware). Their goal is to get a consumer to think of their particular product, or brand, when they need something in that category be it energy drinks, candy, fast food, shoes, and so forth.

Of course this is all tangential to the fact that any attempt at actual in-game advertising of modern brands in a fantasy game is a horrible, horrible idea. Verisimilitude is important.

this is a rough sketch of what I think if anet were actually to implement them what it would be would this really disturb your playing atmosphere?

Me and my pal are wondering on how they are going to mantain the money coming in order to make a real protif out of GW2 and to mantain it.

It seems they had a really tough time to mantain GW1, it seems ilogical to reduce the amount of times the money will come and promisse to create expansion packs, updates and etc. Since they had a 6-10 months gap between the incomes in GW1, and still couldnt give us what they are offering right now.

Maybe there will be tons and tons of things to buy in-game (sound pack, skill packs, character creation, character slot).

The advertising doesn't have to be as invasive as you some people have posted. It could be like the rice cakes and dwarven ale. Who wouldn't like a scoop of Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream, a Hershey Bar, or even Red Bull for their character?

Those items would be out of place in the current Guild Wars but GW2 they may not be.

This is a very awful idea.

Problems with it

- a decreased experience just like watching a movie for free is worse then watching a movie on hbo.

-advertisers influencing game designers...we will advertise if...or perhaps random mysterious lags so that you constantly have to see the log-in screen

-if you give an inch they'll take a mile...once advertisers get the log-in screen they'll start demanding advertising in missions like you've completed the ring of fire congratulations you won a coupon for cereal or amor sponsorship... you can pay 15k for armor or 1k it is has an add on it

just say no to unwanted advertising.

ingame ads ruined swat4.

and if gw2 had ingame ads, it would sway me from purchasing it.

I have to ask, this is a bad thing? I mean, if I got a box of cereal for completing a mission, I'd consider it a lovely bonus! XP, Skill Points, and lookie, Corn Pops, too!

Ok, I'm just kidding!

Yes, I can imagine imagine blizzard making an Ingame Ad for GW.

horrible idea, i'd really hate to see that.
i hope Anet can make good enough money not to ever need to do such stuff.
maybe in the worst case a small ad at login screen/character selection screen would be acceptable, but not any further, please

edit: a small change of mind - if those ads would pay for our extra *storage space* bring them on! lol
